TWO cars collided head-on near Affpuddle on Sunday morning leaving the two drivers seriously injured.

The accident happened at 10.45am on the Bovington Road between Gallow's Hill and Waddock Cross.

In one car, a grey Peugeot 405 estate, was a family of four from Dorchester, in the other, a blue and grey Rover 214 saloon, was a 23-year-old man from Dorchester.

The mother of the family of four was driving the estate car and suffered serious leg and facial injuries in the accident.

Her husband and two children, aged 10 and 12, were shaken by the incident but unhurt. The 34-year-old woman was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital overnight and her condition is said to be stable.

The 23-year-old man driving the other car suffered multiple fractures and head injuries. He is said to be in a critical but stable condition at Dorset County Hospital.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles after the crash. Fire crews from Bere Regis and Wareham cut them free before they were flown to hospital by air ambulance.

The accident happened about a mile east of the Waddock Cross junction on the C80 road
