A NEW foster home for rescued cats is to be set up on Portland by West Dorset Cats Protection.

The £553 raised by members of the organisation at a bazaar held in the Jubilee Hall in Easton will go towards providing pens for the animals.

Cats of the cuddly toy variety were very prominent at the bazaar and there was a demand for the white fake fur kitty-cats which were specially made by a supporter to aid the work of caring for stray and abandoned felines.

The event was a great success with stalls offering a good variety of toys, books, cakes, bric-a-brac and other items which found ready buyers.

West Dorset Cats Protection can also offer the ideal Christmas gift for cat lovers who may, for various reasons, be unable to keep a pet and this can be done through sponsoring one of the elderly cats for which homes cannot be found, which means they must remain in a foster home.

For an annual payment of £15, the sponsor receives a picture of the chosen cat, a certificate and a quarterly newsletter and can have a good feeling all year round knowing that yet another unwanted animal can live out its life being cared for.

The person to contact for this scheme is Heather Meads on (01305) 822157 and anyone who feels they can give a home to a kitten or young cat should get in touch with the homing officer, Barbara Hallett, on (01305) 813717.

All who care about the welfare of cats can become a member of West Dorset Cats Protection on payment of an annual subscription of £5 and for more information on this, get in touch with Gloria Ashwell on 262737.

Like the other members named on this page, she will be delighted to hear from you.
