CHERRIES boss Sean O'Driscoll has told midfielder Carl Fletcher to clean up his disciplinary act.

Fletcher was both hero and villain as Cherries completed a hat-trick of Division Two victories with an emphatic 3-0 triumph over Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

The 20-year-old netted twice for the first time in his career at Adams Park, but also collected a needless fifth booking of the season to earn himself his second suspension inside a month.

Fletcher was hit by a one-match ban after getting sent-off during Cherries' 2-1 win over Peterborough last month and was forced to sit out the FA Cup first round victory over Swansea a fortnight ago.

And he will now be sidelined for Cherries' league clash against the Swans at Dean Court on December 16 after his latest caution brought him another automatic one-match suspension under the totting-up procedure.

O'Driscoll said: "Carl was told before the game that we didn't want any silly bookings and he was controlling himself well until he stopped them taking a quick free-kick.

"He is a fierce competitor who wins his fair share of tackles and is terrific in the air, but he has also got a hot-headed streak which can get him into trouble.

"Carl is now suspended for the Swansea game and because he got booked, I had to bring off Richard Hughes as he is also on four bookings and I didn't want two players banned for the same game.

"If it had been 0-0 when Carl got booked that sort of impetuousness might have cost us. It will cost him money and he has been told so hopefully he will learn from it."

Fletcher blotted his copybook in the 71st minute after he had opened the scoring with a powerful first-half header before he added his second and Cherries' third on the stroke of full-time.

He said: "I was delighted to get the two goals and the points, but disappointed because I got another booking which means I am suspended.

"I was booked because I tried to stop them taking a quick free-kick. I thought it was a bit harsh because I hadn't done anything else during the game."

Sandwiched between Fletcher's goals, Cherries loan star Jermain Defoe bagged a second-half stunner to take his personal tally to five in four games since he arrived on loan from West Ham.

And the 18-year-old wonderkid has now scored in every senior appearance of his career, having netted in his only game for the Hammers in the Worthington Cup at Walsall earlier this season.

Defoe, who was watched by his parents Sandra and Andre, sister Chante and girlfriend Leanne, said: "It was probably the best goal I have scored so far.

"I just cut in from the left, kept my head down and tried to strike the ball as firmly as I could. It could have gone anywhere, but luckily it went in."

Cherries, who are now the joint leading goalscorers on their travels in Division Two, climbed one place to 18th in the table, but are still just two points clear of the relegation zone.
