Dorchester manager Mark Morris has put plans to strengthen his squad with a loan signing on hold until after next Saturday's Dorset Senior Cup tie away to Bournemouth Sports.

"With respect to Sports we shouldn't need to bring anyone in for that game," said Morris.

"I have to be a bit cagey and there isn't much to be gained by starting someone on loan until our next game at home to Stafford Rangers in the Dr Martens League the following Saturday," explained Morris. "With the Christmas period coming up we should then get our money's worth from a months loan with quite a few games in a short period."

With the Magpies already as many as four games behind some other teams in the league the Senior Cup tie, which has to be played on a Saturday because the Bournemouth side do not have floodlights, is something they could well have done without.

And Morris will be desperate not to repeat the scenario of a few seasons ago when Stuart Morgan's men had to postpone three Dr Martens League fixtures before eventually overcoming the Dorset Combination League side at Chapel Gate in a second replay.

"In fact that won't come into it this time because if the match should go to a replay again that would be settled by penalties after extra time," said Magpies secretary David Martin.

He is also hopeful that, should a replay be required, Sports will agree to it being held at The Avenue Stadium the following Tuesday night instead of having to postpone the Stafford game.

With Sports now by no means the force they were when they embarrassed the Magpies a few seasons ago it would indeed be a huge shock if history were to repeat itself.

n Dorchester's home Dr Martens Premier Division game against King's Lynn, postponed on November 18 because of their FA Cup tie at Wigan, will now take place on Sunday, March 4.

The Magpies do not have a fixture on Saturday March 3, but the Linnetts are in action at Bath that day. They plan to travel to Weymouth after that game and stay overnight before Sunday's visit to The Avenue Stadium.

The rained-off fixture away to Worcester City has been re-arranged for Monday, January 29.
