THE Dorchester Thomas Hardye School became the new South West Dorset Area Schools Year Nine hockey champions with an unbeaten record in the four-team, round robin tournament at Redlands.
In a closely fought competition in which only one of the six matches brought more than a single goal, the Dorchester side edged Colfox into second with All Saints third and Wey Valley fourth.
Thomas Hardye opened with a scoreless draw against Wey Valley in a game which
underlined the competiveness of the event, beat All Saints 1-0 and then grabbed a decisive 1-0 victory over Colfox in their final game.
Wey Valley PE teacher Charlotte Box said it had been a good tournament with a good standard of hockey from the Under 14 girls which augured well for the area's senior clubs.
Results: Thomas Hardye 0 Wey Valley 0, Thomas Hardye 1 All Saints 0, All Saints 0 Colfox 2, Thomas Hardye 1 Colfox 0, Wey Valley 0 All Saints 1, Wey Valley 0 Colfox 0.
