BRIGHT sparks in Weymouth are lighting up their family home with Christmas decorations to help send sick children to Disneyland Paris.

The Lilley family, who live near Wey Valley School, raised £2,000 from the Dorchester Road illuminations last year.

They lit up their house with thousands of decorations in aid of the Claire Lemmon Fund after Laura Lilley, 16, fought a 12-month battle against cancer.

Now the family and the Claire Lemmon Fund are appealing for volunteers to help this year's switch-on raise more cash.

Jayne Lilley, Laura's mother, said: "The response was tremendous last year.

"People were so generous. We'd always talked about lighting up the house, but only got round to it after Laura became ill.

"We intend to light up the house again this year and hope to have a few more lights up."

She added: "It would be great to have a few more volunteers to collect money outside the house but also to take tins away and collect in their own streets."

Laura lives with Jayne, dad Stephen, and her sisters Zoe, 15, Joanne and Claire, both 12. They collected the cash by stopping motorists outside their home last Christmas.

They aim to put the lights up at the start of this month.

Laura, who is a student at the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester, is nearly a year in remission from cancer.

All money raised from the family's light show will go towards Claire Lemmon Fund plans to take 50 children to Euro Disney, near Paris, next year.

Roy Saunders, from the Claire Lemmon Fund, said: "It was great that so many people put their hands in their pockets last year.

"Now we need more helpers to make this year's collection go even better."

The Claire Lemmon Fund organises trips for sick children and their families to attractions such as Alton Towers and Legoland. It was founded in memory of Chickerell youngster Claire Lemmon who died from cancer at the age of seven. She had managed to fulfil her dream to ride a pony.

Volunteers are urged to call Mr Saunders on (01305) 772995 or 07989 980665.
