WEYMOUTH Sports trounced their Bournemouth rivals 4-1 in one of the few games to go ahead in the Dorset Combination on Saturday.

Dorchester Reserves fell 2-1 at home to former Magpies' skipper Neil Coates' struggling Shaftesbury side.

But Portland United's game at home to Blandford was abandoned when the Blues were in the driving seat at 1-0.

Four Combination games were cancelled as pitches became waterlogged in the driving rain and wind.

But the conditions failed to deter Weymouth Sports when they beat Bournemouth Sports at Redlands.

The Weymouth side moved up to tenth-place with the 4-1 victory. They raced to a 3-0 lead in an hour with a goal from Peter Jarvis and a brace from Darren Corbridge.

The visitors reduced the arrears in the 65th minute with a goal from Dave Miller, but Weymouth had the last say when Jarvis bagged his second.

The win was Weymouth's fourth of the season, while Bournemouth lost for the eighth time. Dorchester Reserves stay second despite losing 2-1 to Shaftesbury at the Avenue Stadium.

Winger Chris Evans put the Magpies ahead in the first minute with his second goal since returning to the club.

But Lee Russell scored a penalty before half-time to put the sides level.

Shaftesbury's Enzo Frankos hit the winner three minutes into the second- half to give his side three points and his player-manager Coates victory over his old club.

Flame-haired striker Chris Reader fired Portland ahead after ten minutes against Blandford United at Grove Corner.

But the conditions deteriorated badly and the match was abandoned after just 25 minutes. The Blues stay second, but have a game in hand on leaders Hamworthy Recreation.

Sturminster Newton beat bottom placed Witchampton United 4-3 away in a ding-dong encounter.

Bridport's home match against Hamworthy United in the second round of the Dorset Combination Cup was postponed.
