THE major part of the £10,000 bonanza of funds from this year's Borstal Bash was shared between 28 Weymouth and Portland charitable organisations at a social evening held at the Borstal Officers' Club
The Borstal Bash is organised annually by a committee of staff from Portland Young Offender Institution.
Since the Bash in July, a number of donations were made prior to the presentation evening when the top amounts of £500 each went to Portland St John Ambulance and Weymouth North Scout Group, Trimar, 1606 ATC Squadron and Dorset Expeditionary Society.
Portland Community Minibus Association received £300.
Other beneficiaries were: £400 each to Portland United under-12s and Weymouth Operatic Workshop; £300 to Tadpoles Pre-School, Weymouth South Guides, 1st Weston Brownies, Samaritans, 2nd Radipole Guides and 2nd Portland Rainbows; £250 each went to another 14 youth organisations, the NSPCC Portland District and Animal Welfare.
In a lucky draw, three groups received a further £100 each. It was announced that with plans already under way for Borstal Bash 2001 on July 7, applications for stalls and craft tables should be made now to Rick Hill, 174 Chickerell Road, Weymouth DT4 0BU or Mrs Tessa Spiller, 8 Longstone Close, Portland DT5 2EU.
