A CALLOUS brute who continued to kick a partygoer as he received first aid for a vicious assault has been jailed, along with his accomplice.

Christopher Brown and Andrew Turner were seen kicking victim Alan McDonnell "with great force," in an alcohol-fuelled attack as he lay on the ground near Kingland Road taxi rank, Poole, in the early hours of Christmas Eve, police said.

One witness saw Brown, 35, run out of the crowd towards Mr McDonnell in a rage and take three running kicks at his head and body.

Witnesses tried to hold him back, but he continued his attack, screaming obscenities.

Acting DI Ben Hargreaves said after the hearing: "As the witness was administering first-aid to the unconscious victim, Brown again kicked the victim, causing him to move forwards towards the wall, letting out a groan."

Turner, 44, was also seen forcefully kicking something on the ground at least twice.

The witnesses called 999 and described the two men to police, who arrested Brown, from Penn Hill Avenue, at the scene and Turner at his Lynn Road home.

Mr McDonnell, 30, from Poole, had gone to Chilli's nightclub for a work Christmas party that evening, but when he woke in hospital the following day, he could not remember what happened.

He had to have an operation to put together his cheekbone, which was broken in three places, and also suffered severe bruising to the back of his head and legs.

The two men were convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent - Turner was sentenced to 47 months and Brown to 36 months at Bournemouth Crown Court.

Acting DI Hargreaves said later: "This was an horrific and sustained attack, which was entirely unprovoked. Dorset Police is committed to tackling this sort of behaviour on every level."
