CHARITY fundraisers are taking to the streets broad and narrow for the Dublin Marathon this month.

Carole Stanley, 54, from Radipole, Weymouth, is no stranger to the race and on October 31 will be taking part in her seventh marathon.

Mother and daughter duo Pearl, 55, and Cassie Sims, 24, also from Weymouth, will be running alongside Mrs Stanley to raise money for Leukaemia Research.

The trio, who have clocked up a dozen marathons between them, have been running 35-40 miles every week to prepare for the 26-mile race around Dublin.

Several friends and family are also flying out to Dublin to show their support for the group in what is dubbed 'the friendly marathon'.

Mrs Stanley said: "The Irish people are so friendly and the Dublin Marathon is always well supported.

"In fact, having done the London Marathon a few times it's nice to go to other places."

The group are looking forward to their first marathon together since running the New York Marathon in 2003.

Mrs Stanley added: "It's a different atmosphere.

"We chat to people and make a lot of friends.

"And we make sure we have a Guinness afterwards!"

So far they have raised £800 for Leukaemia Research but are hoping to raise around £2,000 overall.

Leukaemia Research is a charity close to the team's hearts as they all know of friends affected by the illness.

Mrs Stanley said: "When you are struggling with the last couple of miles of a run you think of those being treated for leukaemia. At the end of the marathon we can give up.

"They can't. That keeps you focused."

Mrs Stanley is hoping to beat her previous, and best ever, record from the Dublin Marathon of four hours 34 minutes.

Mrs and Miss Sims are also looking to beat the four hours 30 minutes mark.
