TRAGIC teenagers Mathew Myburgh and Charlie Morrell drowned after being swept away by the sea at Lulworth Cove, post mortem examinations have concluded.

Inquests into the deaths of the boys were opened and adjourned in Bournemouth by District Coroner Sheriff Payne on Thursday.

The coroner heard evidence to formally identify the youngsters and adjourned the hearings to dates to be fixed.

Mathew Dylan Myburgh, 16, of School Lane, Lulworth and 15-year-old Lucien Frisby Morrell, also known as Charlie, of Main Road, West Lulworth, were confirmed dead at Poole Hospital after their bodies were recovered on Wednesday, the coroner was told.

Mr Payne heard the boys, along with a friend, were watching waves on the western edge of Lulworth Cove on Thursday November 3 when tragedy struck.

Desperate members of the boys' families joined search teams in their efforts for six days but Mathew's body was found at 7.30am on Wednesday. Charlie's body was found at 4pm the same day. The pair were pupils at Purbeck School.

The coroner will now carry out detailed inquiries and more evidence will be presented at a full inquest.
