WIMBORNE boss Paul Arnold admitted he was looking for his side to turn their star cup form into league points after a disappointing 0-0 home draw.

Arnold even stressed that Lymington Town had probably deserved to win at Cuthbury and that he would have been gutted not to have if he had been their manager.

Magpies, who have a mouth-watering FA Vase last 32 tie at Leamington on January 21, hit the post through Stuart Cannie.

And the same player also saw a late header drift just wide of the post.

But other than that, Wimborne struggled and had to be content with a draw that maintained 10th spot in the table, compared with Lymington's 15th place.

Arnold said: "After our last two FA Vase and Wessex League Cup games you just couldn't believe it was the same side that went out and played in the league.

"Our league form has been very inconsistent, while our cup form has been great, so we need to bring our league form up to our cup standard.

"It was a disappointing result for us, it was almost an embarrassment to take a point.

"Lymington had two or three chances when Stewart Kearn pulled off great saves.

"It would have capped a good week if we had won but Lymington worked hard and they will be disappointed they didn't take all three points."

Wimborne Town: Kearn, Kenway, Whalley, Crutcher, Phillipson-Masters, Griffiths, Drew, Oldbury (Dean 75), Rideout (Doyle 85), Cooper (Clements 55), Cannie.

Stuart Beck grabbed a brace for Brockenhurst but they went down 3-2 at Thatcham.

Beck made it 1-1 after only five minutes with a shot from close range and then netted with a cross-cum-shot in the 70th minute to cut Thatcham's lead to 3-2.

Brock substitute Paul Manning hit a post in the 88th minute, but they were made to pay for falling 3-1 behind inside nine minutes after three centre halves, John Grace, who has moved to Lymington and New Milton, Dave King and Chris Swann were ruled out.

Trefor Smith had a great game in midfield for Brock, who will look at five triallists during a friendly at Salisbury tomorrow (7.30pm).

Brockenhurst: Houkes, Holt, Saunders (Manning 60), Hillyer, Marks, Burden, Jeffries, Kemp, T Smith, Beck, Scammell. Unused subs: Spicer, Collinge.

Lapses in concentration almost put paid to Poole Town before they regrouped and beat BAT at the Sports Ground.

Leigh Phillips netted with a far post header, following a Taffy Richardson chip into the box, to propel the Dolphins 1-0 in front in the 25th minute.

But with Poole guilty of relaxing, BAT levelled to make it 1-1 before Gary Bartlett, set up by Phillips' cut back, restored their lead just before the break.

Defender Neil Spalding came up for a corner and bundled home Dolphins' third goal early in the second half with a low header.

Once more, however, slack defending allowed BAT to score direct from a corner as they cut their deficit back to 3-2.

Poole, whose second successive win lifted them up to 12th in the table, made sure of three points though when Ali Harris sidefooted home Danny Hounsell's square ball in the 88th minute.

Dolphins manager Tommy Killick said: "Even though we won 1-0 at Newbury in the league on Tuesday we have been struggling with our form lately, so the strand of our play was much better on Saturday.

"Although BAT aren't the strongest team in the league, we showed a bit more than we have been showing lately, which is great."

Harris and Mattie White impressed in midfield for Poole.

Poole Town: Spillane, Hounsell, Cherrett, Spalding, Whitely, Bartlett, Richardson, Harris, White, Phillips, Brown (McLeod 88). Unused subs: Sturgess, Butler.

Poole Town have been drawn at home to VT FC in the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup quarter-finals.

Full draw: Poole Town v VT FC, AFC Totton v Petersfield, Andover v Hamworthy United or Christchurch, Winchester City v Wimborne.

Sydenhams Wessex Combination Cup quarter-final draw: BAT or VT FC v AFC Totton, Gosport v Locks Heath, Hamble v Christchurch, Winchester City v Cowes Sports.

Three second-half goals put Poppies back into the title race after Newbury had shut up shop and crowded them out in the first period.

Scott Joyce took advantage of a defensive mistake before rounding the keeper and another defender to dink Poppies 1-0 in front on the hour.

Then Lamin Dibba netted from close range following a Joyce flick on before Mark Dancer, supplied once more by Joyce's head, netted Poppies' third with a spectacular overhead kick.

It was only Poppies' second win in seven league and cup matches, but it lifted them back up to fourth place in the table as they continue the chase to catch up joint runaway leaders Winchester City and Thatcham Town.

Victoria Park boss Pete Moore said: "We dominated for the whole 90 minutes and it was just a case of breaking them down.

"We have had lots of injuries and unavailability, which has badly affected our confidence, but once we scored you could see the confidence come back into the players and we started to play really well.

"We've lost a lot of ground in the league recently but if we keep plugging away we still have half a chance.

"Things are still looking very bright for us."

Bournemouth Poppies: Shergold, Baker, Dibba, Crow, Hubbard (Merritt 65), McCabe, Toy (Cole 65), Saadi, Joyce, Dancer, Benssaouda. Unused sub: Wood.
