A WEYMOUTH college student has launched an Internet radio station from his bedroom.

Sean O' Sullivan beams out Slimz Recordings from his house in Harbour View Road on Portland.

The shows, which run from 9am to 5pm and 11pm to 8am daily, are a mixture of MP3 tracks, live mixing and live music.

Sean said: "We're trying to do everything professionally - we don't want to look like it's some little hobby."

Sean, 24, who is in the first year of studying music technology, said he first thought of the idea six years ago and had been trying to get it off the ground.

"It was a bit of work first of all but now it's going, it's easy to do," he said.

He said he wanted to use the radio station as a platform for local bands to play their songs and for DJs to perform live music in his home-built studio.

"It gives everybody a chance to shine. I hope people will listen to this at home or maybe at work on their breaks," he said.

Sean added: "If someone is new on the scene it's very hard for them to get in anywhere,

"When I first started playing it was at someone else's night with a couple of rubbish speakers that were falling apart and just a couple of people over 60 listening - but it gets better."

Sean, who used to be a garage DJ in London, said he wanted to give younger DJs and musicians in the area a chance to perform either through playing their music or live performances which can be heard on www.slimz-recordings.com

He said: "I know I blew my chances years ago. I used to mix garage - I was good but I didn't push myself, I didn't do anything with it so I missed my chance,

"In Weymouth it's the same old people doing the same old thing - now and again we get some big names, but it needs shaking up."

He said that the Internet radio station was part of a project under the Slimz Recording name which also includes a club night opening at the Masons and Mariners on Portland on January 27.

"At the moment I'm concentrating on the DJing aspect of it but I'm also looking to promote local bands and artists with their own material or even some good covers bands," he added.

The station has six DJs playing a mixture of music from rock, to garage, breakbeat and house music.
