OAKMEADIANS blew a 13-point lead to lose 39-22 at home to Keynsham and now find themselves in a serious relegation scrap.

The Meyrick Parkers thrilled their fans by storming into a 19-6 advantage with only four minutes to go until half time in their South West Division Two East relegation "six-pointer".

But the appearance of Keynsham substitute Russ Tanner helped turn the game into the Avon outfit's advantage as they hit back hard to run in four second half tries.

With the Tanners, Russ and Briden, running in a touchdown apiece inside 10 minutes it saw Keynsham level the score at 19-19 before Maaka Papuni and Oli Cavanagh also scored tries to give them the verdict.

Fly-half Paul Edson was also a thorn in Oaks' side. He had a field day, kicking five penalties and two conversions as the Dorset side simply threw the game away.

That was after early tries by Joe Tuilua, Tim Flower and Sevi Kurewaka had put the Meyrick Parkers into, seemingly, total control as the half-time break beckoned.

Jeremy Cook slotted over one conversion and two penalties for Oaks, who slipped to third bottom in the table, with Keynsham leap-frogging them.

Oaks also face a stern test at runaway league leaders Cleve this Saturday against a side who have won all 14 of their matches this campaign.

So they know they are in a quagmire of their own making after blowing the big lead against Keynsham.

It had all looked great early on after Tuilua was put over by Tim Flowers following a great chip through by Cook.

Al Blewitt broke from a scrum and fed Flower, who scored an excellent forwards try that Cook converted.

Edson replied with two penalties before Tony Gallagher put Kurewaka in under the posts with Cook converting to stretch Oaks' lead to 19-6.

That man Edson trimmed the gap to 19-9 with his third penalty in first half stoppage time and then it all went wrong for the Meyrick Parkers.

Keynsham's number eight had to go off injured early in the second period and in a re-organisation substitute Russ Tanner went on the wing.

He promptly scored with his first touch of the ball and then Briden Tanner also ran in another try to make it 19-19.

Edson and Cook swapped penalties, so with 15 minutes to go the clash was deadlocked at 22-22.

Then Keynsham, buoyed with confidence, took command when Edson kicked another penalty before Papuni punished a knock-on near Oaks' own line to dive over under the posts and Cavanagh picked up a loose ball to score again in the sixth minute of added time. Oakmeadians: Tewake, Tuilua, Flammia, Harman, Kurewaka, Cook, Shaylor, Hopkins, Gallagher, Riley, Hudson (J Croker), W Croker, Flower, Hennings, Blewitt (Davey).

Dan Hawker's penalty was Oakmeadians 2nds' consolation as they lost 40-3 at Weymouth in Dorset and Wiltshire Division One South.

Thomas Strudwick kicked one conversion and two penalties and Carl Suckling scored a try as Oakmeadians 3rds lost 15-13 at home to Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew in Division Two South.
