YOBS used a home-made stinger to puncture the tyres of a car on one of Weymouth's busiest roads.

Driver Louisa Russ was forced to swerve as pointed objects punctured her tyres.

Health Care assistant Louisa, 27, from Portland Road, Wyke Regis, was on Buxton Road driving her mother's car when a youth ran into the street and threw something at the car.

Mrs Russ' mother, Jackie Wilson, 48, said she was furious at the reckless behaviour.

She said "Louisa saw two youths on the side of the road. A third one ran out and threw something at the car.

"This punctured the front and rear drivers side tyres. It has left several puncture marks around the tyres edge and it looks as if it was some kind of home-made stinger. Thankfully Louisa used to be an army driver so she knew what she was doing.

"She was sticking to the 30 mph speed limit at the time and managed to bring the car under control a short distance away.

"After she stopped and looked back she saw the youths run in to collect whatever device they had thrown. They were laughing as they ran off again.

"What if there had been a car coming the other way, or maybe even a pedestrian nearby and she hadn't manage to keep control of the car.

"This could have been a lot worse and I could have been getting a knock at the door from someone telling me that my daughter had been killed. That would have destroyed my life."

Mrs Wilson is so angry about the youth's actions that she is offering a cash reward for anyone who provides information leading to the youth's capture.

She added: "This wasn't an accident or some harmless joke. They set out to do this and I believe that since they got away they will do it again. They need to be stopped."

The youth who threw the stinger was wearing a baseball cap, a shiny black bomber jacket and a pair of tracksuit bottoms with a stripe down the side.

Weymouth police are investigating the incident and called for anyone with information to call them on 01305 222222.
