HUNDREDS of motorcyclists took to the road for a charity ride through Dorset and Somerset.

The group, made up of riders from all over Dorset and as far afield as Bristol, were riding to raise funds for the Dorset Search and Rescue Team (DORSAR) which specialises in finding missing and vulnerable people.

The event raised £1,600, which will be used to provide DORSAR team leaders with packs they can take home to increase their response time. These will include satellite navigation devices, first aid kits and two-way radios.

Event organiser and DORSAR operations manager Loop Walsh said: "We had 350 riders turn up. It would have been more but the weather wasn't very kind to us. The ride was conducted safely and took in Dorchester, Yeovil and Bridport before returning to Weymouth.

"Big thanks need to go out to the police, the traffic marshals, the borough council and the Mayor, Les Ames, who started the ride off."
