FUNDRAISERS completed a rather literal pub-crawl by getting down on their hands and knees for a Dorchester musician.

Some 40 charity ‘mountaineers’ donned hard hats and tied themselves together to scale the county town equivalent of Ben Nevis – a 1,344-metre crawl up High West and East streets.

Stop-offs were made at seven pubs and at Costa coffee, where staff laid on 40 free coffees. The climbers raised £500 for the Help A Friend Help A Friend (HAF HAF) fund in aid of throat cancer sufferer Steve Charles. All the money will go to support the Nobby’s Cousins’ front man as he battles his condition.

Organiser Jack Daniels said: “It was great, people were tooting their horns as we went round. We were worried about holding the traffic up as we crawled across the road. At the end of it all we found we had burns and blisters. One girl even had bleeding knees but she wanted to carry on.”

The crawl was officially started by town crier Alistair Chisholm, who motivated the fundraisers with some inspiring cheers. Outfits were supplied by the Dorchester Build Center.

The HAF HAF fund has now hit its target of £5,000 for Steve’s fund with the Six Bellies weight-loss challenge still in full swing.

More events are planned.
