FRIENDS Alys Morgan and Charlotte Head will face each other in the run-up to the finale of the 2010 Star Sensations competition.

After getting through the Weymouth auditions, both women will have to wow the judges again during the heats stage in the town in June.

They are among hundreds of hopefuls aiming to get through to the competition’s finale, taking place in Bournemouth later this year, in an attempt to find the best unsigned singer on the south coast.

Legal secretary Alys, 19, of Kempston Road, Weymouth, said she and her friend decided to enter this year’s competition ‘for a bit of fun’ after reading about the 2009 contest in the Dorset Echo.

She added: “The auditions were a bit nerve-wracking.

“They were a lot like The X Factor where you have to sing acapella in front of judges.

“There are so many people entering the competition it would be nice to just get through to the final.

“I never entered the competition thinking I would get through and I’m not really seeing it as a competition against Charlotte.”

Trainee buyer Charlotte, 20, of Grove Avenue, Weymouth, said she was also ‘very nervous’ when she came to sing Hallelujah in front of the judges at the Weymouth auditions.

She added: “I only sang the first and third verse, otherwise it could have dragged on a bit.

“It does feel a bit weird going into a competition against a friend but we are really good friends above all.

“We are just seeing it as a bit of fun and I don’t think it will affect our friendship if one or the other wins.”

Star Sensations organiser Darren Burt said there are a total of 45 people competing in the Weymouth heats, which will take place at the town’s Centenary Club on Monday, May 31, and Wednesday, June 2.

Weymouth heats for the Little Stars section of the competition, for under-16s, will take place at the club on Sunday, May 30, and Sunday, July 25.

Mr Burt said 989 people are taking part in heats at the four competition venues, including Weymouth, before the finalists are selected to go through to the live final in Bournemouth later in the year.

He added that 35 of the 45 people taking part in the Weymouth heats are from the borough and surrounding areas.
