Abbotsbury and Langton Herring

Langton Herring

MARTIN Fielding, a Langton Herring resident has sent me an email about their successful Great Dorset Beach Clean on Sunday, 18 April

Nine Langton Herring residents and two little Jack Russell’s did their bit and collected rubbish from Rodden Hive to Moonfleet.

Wonderful sunny weather and low tide on the Fleet Lagoon made for ideal conditions to give the shoreline a good clear up.

Plastic bottles were collected for recycling and altogether 14 large bags of rubbish were gathered.

This section of the Beach Clean was organised by the Dorset Countryside’s Coastal Ranger Team’s Jenny Penney who also supplied the equipment and acted as the first aider.

700 volunteers – 100 of these children - turned up on 25 beaches along the Dorset coast and at least 650 bags of rubbish were collected.

After the cleanup most of the Langton’s residents retired to The Elm Tree pub for a well earned drink.

Abbotsbury

An email tells me that the Chesil and the Fleet make up one of Europe’s most important marine nature reserves.

The reserve has a broad range of habitats and is of vast historic importance.

On this walk the guides will take you to one of the more secluded parts of the Fleet.
