Mr Figg (Letters, June 9) raises a few points.

In my time there have been three predecessors to Mr Knight. These were Mr King, Lord Cranborne and Mr Bruce.

Perhaps Mr Figg could remind us of the achievements of the above trio who, collectively, presided over and voted for the closure of Portland Dockyards and Airbase, ARE Winfrith Nuclear Facility, Sealink etc, with the huge loss of jobs and revenue.

No we never voted for ‘Lord Jim’ nor any one else seated in the Lords.

Mr Knight’s performance has been no worse than the three former MPs mentioned, indeed some people might feel he has done rather better.
