I, LIKE thousands of other motionless hair-tearing motorists, are fed up of hearing faceless bureaucrats tell me that this ill-thought out traffic jam is for my own good and future wealth.
Although in my late 40s I have not got to the stage of short-term memory loss and can remember the huge cost incurred by the incumbent council due to the tall ships coming to Weymouth – extra car parking, extra stewards, extra catering – and on the day Weymouth possibly sold an extra six lollies.
The idea that we will all benefit from the Olympics is a sham.
The huge profits and glory will go to the chosen few, the employment prospects for Portland will be few and far between – making beds and serving Champagne to the mass entourage of hanger-ons these events seem to have – and the wage will be a catering minimum.
The real residents of Portland, Weymouth and Wyke Regis cannot afford the luxury of a minority sport like yachting and aren’t really interested.
So why are the councillors yet again going against the wishes of the residents like they did with the Pavilion?
TIM GRIFFITHS, Stoke Road, Wyke Regis, Weymouth
