As a first timer to Weymouth, I had a nine-hour journey from far flung Scotland by train for my stay in the town, from May 29 to June 5, when I had glorious weather with brilliant accommodation.
In all other resorts and towns the TICs are on the main thoroughfare to catch passing trade.
The Pavilion is out on a limb and does not enhance or promote the town or the area.
Where are the posters, leaflets, timetables of trains and buses for the visitor to see? There is a lot of un-utilised space.
On day visits to Wareham, Lyme Regis and Poole I walked into traditional TICs overflowing with sale items, leaflets, books, and more than helpful staff, and obtained the timetables and other information which were not available in Weymouth.
I would add that albeit during the half-term holiday week in England, on a visit to Portland Bill midweek I found the women’s public toilets adjacent to the lighthouse visitor centre had no bins in the WC area and were littered with various debris – disgusting.
In fact they were the worst public toilets I have seen all year.
I may add the car park and coach park were not full to capacity.
So come on Crown Estate and local authority, you could manage these better.
