Buckland Newton

  • AN OPPORTUNITY as come up to create a record, in map form, of all the historic and modern information that exists of the parish.

Grant funding has been made available and the Parish Council is now looking for someone willing to undertake this exciting task.

The aim is to establish a permanent record of all the historic field names, boundaries, houses built during different periods, roads, woods, and the like.

This would be ideal for someone who enjoys working with old records and a real interest in history.

Several Parish Councillors would be happy to offer help and support.

If you think this could be for you please contact the Parish Clerk Vanessa Wellstead on 01300 345183.

Sydling St. Nicholas

  • CHURCH Fete: This year’s fete takes place on Saturday, July 10, starting at 2:30pm.

So tell your children and let your imagination run wild!

As usual for the Sydling fete the evenings leading up to the fete are jam-packed with other events!

On Tuesday, July 6 a five-a-side football evening has been organised.

On Wednesday, July 7 a games evening will take place and on Thursday, July 8 a treasure hunt!

Volunteers are always required to ensure the fete will be a success.

If you are able to run one of the attractions or can help with setting up/clearing away please contact Nick Hopkin on 01300 341210.

The fete committee very much hopes that you will mark Saturday, July 10 in your diary!

Please note that the Moraston String Quartet has once again offered to give a concert in aid of fete funds.

This is always a treat to look forward to, the concert will take place in the autumn and further details will appear in this column nearer the time.

  • DUCK race: SHARP’S annual duck race made a superb profit of £ 714.

Many thanks go to everyone who supported this event even though it turned out a rather cold day.

  • CHURCH Services: A new pattern regarding the Sydling Church Services has been established.

The number of services has been reduced but still reflect something to suit everyone.

On the first Sunday of every month a Family Service will be held at 10:30am.

The second Sunday is marked by a Common Worship including the Holy Communion, the service begins at 10:30am.

On the third Sunday of every month an Evening Prayer using the Prayer Book is now held at 6:30pm.

Finally, the fourth Sunday offers again a Common Worship including the Holy Communion, at 10:30am.

There is no Taize Service in Sydling St. Nicholas, this meditative service with readings and easily learnt chants is on offer in Frampton, at 6:30pm on the fourth Sunday of every month.
