IT’S official - here comes Summer, and we know this because… many of our events at the centre have a well earned holiday as the world and his wife leaves Weymouth in search of pastures new, at least for a couple of weeks.

This does mean that The Park Community Centres hall has plenty of free time.

So if your child has a birthday, then with only a few hours notice, providing the hall is not being used, you can utilise our space for a very modest sum for a three-hour period, including a bouncy castle, which is erected by volunteers prior to your arrival.

All you have to do is provide the food and drink.

If bouncy castles don’t float your boat, then we can also offer the ever-popular dance mats at an extra charge.

They are truly for all ages and with more than a handful of mats to use there will be no fighting over who goes first.

Alternatively, there may even be the opportunity to include the recently acquired karaoke as part of your event.

We are truly flexible, (could this be the benefits of working out on the dance mats!)

SUNDAY, August 15 sees a Bookstall at Greenhill Gardens from 10am-4pm approx.

Selling secondhand books, and also Tombola.

So if you need a bit of reading material whilst lounging around in your garden or on the beach then pop along to the gardens and fill your socks with a grand selection of literature that has been amassing over the past few months.

Zen and the Art of Road Traffic Control may not be amongst the books present but there is bound to be something that can hit the spot.

There’s another community quiz coming up in September. The last one was well attended, and the reading material found here could be just what’s needed to ensure success.

And finally –

Seagulls, are they highly intelligent? Amazing memory? Or intense sense of smell? Whatever it is, they really do know when and where to be on any given day for the best foraging (and yes I’m being polite here).

Every Thursday they can be found swooping over the Park area hunting down the bags put out early, and then diving in and shredding all your personal effects all over the area.

We really need to do something about this, and we know its not going to be a quick result, it’s going to take some time, but there are things we can do.

From the ridiculous... Work out a smell that the birds hate and liberally spray our bags with it, To the practical... Brown kitchen caddies, we should all have them, if you don’t either ring the Park Community Centre on 01305 839579 or pop along and ask at the centre yourself and we can organise one dropped off to you.

Apart from cooking what we need to eat and not having excess food leftover that cannot be composted, the only other way is to use these bins.

If you have any space in your freezer, instead of storing a loaf of bread or bags of ice, use a couple of carrier bags to hold your waste food. Then the evening before collection, just bring it out of the freezer and generally you can turn out a nice frozen block into your brown caddy, which then sits outside and gets emptied usually before it has defrosted, avoiding the smell and much of the mess that goes with it.

This also doubles up as an energy efficient tip as an empty freezer uses more energy than a full one. So be doubly green and let’s not just save the planet, but help our immediate environment.
