A DOG that was heartlessly abandoned on the Granby Industrial Estate is doing well and looking for a new home.

Ginger, an eight-year-old sheltie terrier, was abandoned in front of BMT Defence Services on Thursday afternoon.

CCTV cameras caught the moment she was dumped by three people in a blue Mazda or Kia Rio car.

Dog warden Ian Lewis took Ginger to Woodlands Farm Kennels in Bridport where she is now being looked after by Mary Bull.

Mrs Bull is welcoming donations to help look after Ginger and wants to hear from anyone who would give her a new home.

Shel said: “Ginger is an absolute poppet. We decided to stick with the name Ginger because it was so appropriate with her colouring.

“She was a little bemused and confused to find herself in kennels.

“She is lovely on a lead out and about and has obviously had a stable home life at some stage.”

Mrs Bull said that the CCTV footage was shocking.

She said: “The fact that Ginger tried to follow the car to find her owner.

“Dogs don’t abandon their people. A dog gives you its life.

“A dog is the only creature on Earth that will love you more than you love anything else or yourself.

“It will give and never expect anything, but appreciate everything they’re given.

“I don’t know how anyone could heartlessly abandon her.”

Dorset Echo readers expressed their shock at the way Ginger had been abandoned and left comments on the Echo website, many saying that the CCTV footage had made them cry.

Weymouth and Portland dog team enforcement officer Chris Robertson said that by law Ginger had to be kept by authorities for seven days before she was allowed up for re-homing.

He said: “No one has come forward with information about the blue car as yet, which is a shame. Hopefully, someone will come forward this week.”

Mr Robertson added that CCTV was still being analysed to try and get the car registration number.

He said: “We are really keen to find whoever did this as this is a very serious matter.”

Mrs Bull is currently also looking after Nessun, a collie who was abandoned with a flea infestation and ulcers under his teeth that were so bad they burst through his cheeks.

Woodland Farm Kennels is taking in donations to help towards Ginger and Nessun’s care.
