WE ARE both busy with charity work in the Fiji Islands, but still in touch with life back in Dorset.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those in Dorset who have given us help and support.

In particular, we would like to thank the Ivy Club in Maiden Newton and Rodwell WI for all the ‘baby boxes’ that they put together. We have taken these to new mothers in Lautoka Hospital and they have been received with great joy and gratitude.

We have made a return visit to the John Wesley College and seen the students there using and appreciating the shirts donated by Dorchester Rugby Club.

Other people in Dorset have responded to an appeal following flooding at the Early Intervention Centre in Suva. The centre suffered damage as a result of heavy rain and Children of Fiji is in the process of arranging for things to be replaced and for the carpets to be replaced by tiles. We would like to thank all who have made donations towards this project.

The highlight of our visit has been the opening of a kindergarten in Nabukelevu-i-Ra on the island of Kadavu. This is our fourth kindergarten and will give pre-school children the opportunity of education in an area where there are currently no such facilities.

This kindergarten was built in memory of a Fijian lady and her 3 year-old granddaughter, both of whom tragically died in a car accident in New Zealand just over a year ago.
