This year’s flu jabs for patients of the Preston Road Surgery were organised like a military campaign!

Those eligible were invited to attend at Westfield School on Littlemoor Road. On arrival, car parking was controlled by two Police Community Support Officers, while surgery staff, dressed in distinctive yellow T-shirts directed people into the new sports hall, a magnificent building containing all manner of facilities for the Westfield staff and children.

In the entrance more staff pointed the way down a long corridor, at the end of which was another yellow clad official.

Instructions from here were to descend the stairs to another member of staff, who indicated the doorway to the main gymnasium. Then a receptionist allocated each person to one of no less than ten medical professionals available to administer the injection!

Exiting via the back door of the hall, groups of friends could be seen chatting on the lawns outside in warm sunshine.

All that was missing was tea and biscuits, so if this one detail could be added the event may become one of the high spots of the Senior Citizen year!

Talking of Westfield School, the Preston Table Tennis Club meets there every Wednesday evening between 7pm and 9pm.

They would be pleased to see you whether you are an experienced or a novice player, and all necessary equipment and instruction is available to start you off. Contact Dave (835108) or Geoff (837001) for further details.

To celebrate Halloween there will be a Sausage Sizzle at the Mission Hall on Saturday 31 October from 6 pm to 7.30pm.

There will be fancy dress and spooky pumpkin competitions for the children, and it should be great fun for all.

June Snell will be holding her last card sale for 2010 in the Church Rooms after the 10am service on Sunday 7 November.

Those of you who have bought cards from June in the past will know what a fine range of birthday, Christmas and other cards she can provide, and those who haven’t seen her stock are in for a treat.

June creates the cards herself, and they really are a delight. She always has a stock at home, and is also happy to make personal cards for special occasions with decorations, names and wording of your choice.

Drop in to the Church Rooms, or give June a ring. She’s always willing to produce a tailor (or should that be Snell?) made card just for you.
