GREEN-fingered Rotarians hope to transform Bowling Alley Walks into a sea of purple.
A 10-strong team from the Rotary Club of Dorchester planted 1,000 crocus bulbs alongside the footpath.
The aim was to add a touch of colour to the town but also raise awareness of the Rotary move-ment’s campaign to eradicate Polio.
It is hoped the bulbs will be in full flower when the Rotary marks Thanks for Life Day on February 23 next year to celebrate the work the organisation is doing around the world to tackle the disease.
The purple flowers represent the colour of ink dabbed on a child’s little finger to indicate that they have been immunised against polio.
Rotarian Andrew Jones said: “We think we planted all the bulbs the right way up so hopefully they will come up nicely to see next year.
“As well as adding a bit of colour for the local community they will also be promoting the Rotary’s efforts on its big day.”
Mr Jones said he also wanted to thank Dorchester Town Council for allowing them to do the planting.
