A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after injuring her ankle at a Jurassic Coast beauty spot.

The drama occurred at Durdle Door in Lulworth when the woman was walking along the beach on Sunday.

Portland Coastguard was alerted to the incident at around 2.15pm.

A coastguard spokesman said: “A call was received reporting a woman had fallen while walking on the beach west of Durdle Door, injuring her ankle.

“Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team, Dorset Ambulance and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 106 attended.

“The casualty was airlifted to Dorchester where she was met by Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team and transferred by ambulance to Dorchester Hospital.”

Medical sales manager Keith Bendall, of Radipole, Weymouth, witnessed the rescue while he was on a day out with his family and captured photographs of the scene.

He said: “The Coastguard were there for about an hour.

“The helicopter first landed on the beach to drop someone off, then took off again and hovered while waiting for the casualty to be prepared.

“It then landed on the beach again.”

They also witnessed emergency services responding to a second incident.

At 2.47pm Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team reported that a woman had suffered a fit whilst walking in the area of Durdle Door.

Paramedics on scene were able to assist the woman.
