Cerne Abbas

  • A GREAT honour will be bestowed onto the village on Friday, October 29.

The Royal British Legion is launching their annual Poppy Appeal at 12:30pm.

Come along whether you are a member or not since there will be much to see!

A parade starting at the Square will take place as well as a Poppy Display in the Gian Inn and various events in the Village Hall.

The appeal is even more significant since not only the dead are being remembered but also those who were injured or in any other way affected by violent conflicts.

Please give whatever you can to support the Royal British Legion’s vital welfare work.

  • “TELL me on a Sunday” is the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Don Black hit musical which will be visited by the Cerne Abbas Theatre Club on Thursday, November 11.

Non-members are welcome to attend this evening performance, tickets cost £ 27.50.

Payment should be made now at Cerne Abbas Stores.

  • HISTORICAL Society: This month members and anyone interested are invited to take a trip back in time.

The society is showing “Away in a Village”, a BBC film, broadcast in three parts.

It shows Cerne Abbas at Christmas time in 1974 and offers a chance to see just how much has changed and revel in old memories!

Please come to the Village Hall at 7:30pm on Thursday, October 28, non-members are welcome to attend against payment of a small fee.

Minterne Magna

  • A SOUP lunch will be held on Saturday, November 6 in Cerne Abbas Village Hall.

Everyone is welcome, including residents from surrounding villages.

Slurp times are from 12:30pm – 1:30pm and there will also be a Bring and Buy table and a raffle.

  • SADLY the Tite family on their once-in-million “bicycle” were absent when the Dorset Historic Churches Cycle Ride took place in September this year.

They were aptly replaced, however, by Henry Digby, who visited some five churches between Minterne and Dorchester.

He raised about £ 300 and his efforts were followed by a Charity Tennis Tournament.

Well done Minterne for this year’s contribution!

  • MINTERNE Gardens: Don’t miss the opportunity to visit these beautiful gardens during the last few weeks of autumn.

New head gardener Ray Abraham has already invested a great deal of care and affection into the gardens and is looking forward to seeing even better results next year!

Now is the time to enjoy the marvellous colour changes of the Acers and Maples and take a leisurely stroll exploring all the nooks and crannies!

Ray and the Digby family would like to thank everyone for their support and are hoping to make Minterne Gardens one of the greats of Dorset.

Buckland Newton

  • LYDDEN Meadow is an attractive group of ten highly efficient houses for purchase or rent.

Those of you who follow my column will have read the various progress reports of the development.

The houses will now be ready for occupation in summer 2011.

Those who are interested must be registered on the local Council Housing Needs Register Database.

The Trust draws on this database, however, the overriding aim is to ensure the homes benefit local people and those with connections to the village, followed by surrounding villages.
