TRAFFIC came to a standstill on the A35 after a two-car collision in Chideock.

The smash, at around 2.15pm yesterday, blocked both sides of the road and caused tailbacks.

No-one was seriously injured in the collision, which involved a silver Vauxhall Vectra Estate belonging to a Bridport man and a blue Mazda six TS belonging to a Stratford-upon-Avon man.

A man in his 80s was taken to Dorset County Hospital as a precaution.

Diversions were put in place while the road was being cleared.

Chideock resident John Tilley said: “It’s chaotic. The accident blocked the road both ways.

“There are two fire engines here and half a dozen policemen and an ambulance. The queue seemed to be going back towards the Eype turning and back.

Helen Long, of the Clock House Inn in Chideock added: “The people in the cars looked as though they were in shock. I think it’s going to be a while until it’s all cleared again.”
