Staff from a Croxley Green barber shop will be hot-footing it across a path of flaming coals to raise money for a Watford Hospice.

Clare Lemon of CJ Barbers, in New Road, will be taking part in what is probably the shortest, but most challenging sponsored walk available, raising money for The Peace Hospice.

On Thursday, November 11, she will put her best foot forward and her mind over matter, alongside colleagues Rebbecca Barnes, Amy Read and Serana Morris in a four-metre long trial by fire.

Ms Lemon said: “I'm a bit nervous, the girls are quite worried and all the customers think we're mad.”

The group is raising money for the Peace Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care for people with a life limiting or terminal illness.

She said: “I had a very good friend who stayed at The Peace Hospice in the beginning of the year, it was the first time I'd been there and the staff were so great.

“Jane Robinson was 49 when she died of cancer, I knew her for a long time, she used to work next door.

“She only had the illness for a few weeks and only stayed at the hospice for short time but they really made an impression. They were amazing.

“Jane was a great friend, had a great sense of humour and was a great laugh.”

The walk will cost each participant £30 to take part and they will have to raise a minimum charity donation of £200 each.

Peace Hospice needs to raise £3 million of charitable income every year in order to open its doors. All the care it provides is free.

CJ Barbers is collecting donations for the fire walk in its shop in New Road.
