TOWN councillors have backed plans for new Parking restrictions in Dorchester.

Members of the town council’s planning and environment committee expressed their support for restrictions in Edward Road and part of Coburg Road after hearing they had the backing of residents.

The Dorset County Council proposals will see some sections of the roads designated as no waiting at any time.

Other stretches will see waiting limited either to two hours from 9am to 6pm on Monday to Saturday or just one hour from 8am to 8pm on Monday to Saturday.

Coburg Road resident David Manuel told councillors that a survey had shown 80 per cent of people in the street backed the scheme.

He said: “Parking in that road has got pretty horrendous over the last few years and we are pleased it has reached this stage.”

Coun Susie Hosford said: “The residents are clearly happy with this.”
