A BANK card cloning device has been found at a supermarket cashpoint.

Asda staff called the police yesterday morning about the equipment at a cash machine at the supermarket in Newstead Road, Weymouth.

It is not known how long the device was there and shoppers are being warned to monitor their bank accounts.

A spokesman for Link – the UK’s main cash machine network – said card users were unlikely to become victims of fraud if their pin number had not been seen.

He said: “Just because anybody has recently used this machine does not necessarily mean they will be a victim of fraud – especially if the police have recovered the device and it is not in the hands of the fraudsters.

“Furthermore if cash machine users have followed common sense advice to shield the keypad when they enter their PIN then the chances of them falling victim to fraud are significantly minimised.”

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “The public are reminded to be vigilant when using cash points following the discovery of a device on a machine at the Asda store. Always check the machine to see if there is anything suspicious attached.”
