Ignorance is disappointing.

I have read with interest, all the recent letters slamming the county council for the well-publicised proposed cuts to services.

However, as yet, I have not seen anyone offer a credible alternative to the cuts proposed.

To suggest cuts are not necessary is totally unrealistic.

The amounts of money that needs to be found are well documented, and are so big, that no council service will be left untouched.

If, for example libraries are reprieved then what? Another service area will have to be hit harder. Roads? Social Care? Would that be better?

I also feel incensed at regular inferences that County Hall is full of fat cat managers sat in comfy chairs.

Speaking as someone who works in County Hall this could not be further from the truth.

Hundreds of staff work for salaries less than the Dorset average salary, the chance of having any money to save at the end of the month nothing but a distant dream.

Staff frequently work well beyond their contracted hours to serve an expectant public.

Finally I note a lot of letters complaining about the salaries of the chief officers of the county council.

Complaining is one thing but no one has addressed the real issue here.

Where can you find people of sufficient calibre, willing to take on the levels of responsibility these posts hold, who are prepared to do it for a lower salary?

I’d be very interested to know where these people exist.
