SPEAKING after the sentencing, Councillor Wallace said he wanted to apologise to his constituents, friends, colleagues and his wife.

“I really let myself down and I want to redeem myself and throw myself into working for the community as I do every day,” he said.

He added that he has no idea how the incident will affect his chances in the local elections.

Coun Wallace said the driving ban was going to be ‘tough’ but friends and colleagues have rallied round to help him.

He said he drank three and a half pints before getting behind the wheel.

“I fully accept the magistrates’ decision but I’m not sure if they took on board the concussion I suffered in the accident.

“I think I got what I deserved. Every time I go into a pub now I feel sick and nauseous.

“This shows I got it wrong. I would say to people who underestimate the effects of alcohol on your system that I have learned things the hard way.”
