  • SOCIETY for Horticulture: A plant swap will be taking place on Saturday, May 21 at Abbey Pottery, Kettle Bridge.

It will be held from 10am – noon with coffee and cakes being available.

Don’t forget to split herbaceous plants now and if you are sowing seeds please pot up some extra for the swap, you may brighten someone else’s day!

There is also a new class for prizes for allotments so why not enter and get yours into shape now?

It is hoped that many gardeners will enter their plots so here is your chance to shine!

  • SQUIBB Garden: With the weather now turning a lot warmer, why not make a point of enjoying this garden a lot more?

It is located beside St. Mary’s Church and a peaceful and beautiful spot.

Do spend some time there next time you are visiting the village, there is a lot to be said for a bit of quiet contemplation!

Perhaps you are already familiar with it and would like to make a gesture by contributing to its upkeep?

Volunteers are always needed for simple gardening tasks on a fortnightly basis.

  • LYDDEN Vale Gardening Club: This month’s talk takes place on Wednesday, April 20 in the Village Hall.

Martin Young will speak about “Gardening on clay – Gardening on Chalk” thereby covering lots of challenges!

Please come at 7pm for a 7:30 start, non-members are as always welcome for a small payment of £ 2.

  • FOOTBALL Club: The next quiz to raise funds for the club will take place on Sunday, April 24 at 7:30pm in the Giant Inn.

The quizzes are always excellent fun, different quizmasters provide different challenges!

Do come if you can and help raise the record taking funds from last time!

The club is going from strength to strength with the men’s team about to win the league.

Out of 160 goals scored in the league Cerne have scored 90 and are the only unbeaten team in all the Dorset leagues – well done to all the players!

If you or your children are interested in joining the club please make yourselves known, whether you live in the village or not.

Boys and girls aged four to eight years are particularly welcome, with a view to entering a team in the Dorset League 2011/12 as well as under 11’s.

All adults have the opportunity to play in the Saturday League.

  • MOBILE Library: Have you ever thought of using it?

If you would like to give it a try please note that it visits on Monday’s fortnightly as follows: It arrives in Cerne Abbas at The Royal Oak between 11:20am and 12:40pm, at Acreman Street bungalows between 1:55pm – 2:30pm and in Godmanstone (Frys Lane) between 2:45pm – 3:05pm.

There will be no service on Easter Monday, April 25.

  • EARLY as it may seem, you might like to know that the photography competition for this year’s village fete has been re-instated!

It will take place on Saturday, July 9 and the subjects for the competition are “Gates” and “Holidays”.

There are three age groups – under 12’s, 12 – 18 and 18+.

Entries are 30 p per photograph, the closing date is Wednesday, July 6.

So start snapping!
