A second gun was found dumped at Kinson Common in Bournemouth hours after a dog walker found an unloaded shotgun in a case.
Police officers found the firearm during an extensive search of the area overnight on Friday. The common remains sealed off to the public while the police continue their investigations.
A renewed appeal has gone out for anyone with information to come forward.
Sergeant Steven Houston of the Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “I’m appealing to anyone with any information to contact Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111 or Dorset Police on 01305 222222.”
