I write about the new order of vehicular traffic schemes in the Weymouth area.

The new Relief Road is great and let us hope that the detractors, who have over the years cost us many hundreds of thousands of pounds, will now shut up and enjoy it.

When the delays at each end have been sorted out and the cuttings green over, people will wonder what all the fuss was about.

I do however, have serious reservations about certain aspects which seem to have altered the natural order of priorities developed and accepted by motorists over many years.

For example, the delayed traffic merging after roundabouts is a potential for accidents in heavy traffic as there is no obvious priority between the streams going at about the same speed.

Motorists are not used to traffic ‘undertaking’ them.

Also the present situation at Boot Hill/Asda is totally crazy.

Who devised a sequence of lights that launch two opposing traffic streams simultaneously at each other?

A friend of mine complained to the council about the dangers and was told it was his driving behaviour that was at fault.
