My son and I were walking along the Esplanade on Friday and we stopped by the traffic lights opposite M&S in order that my son could tie his shoelaces.
I was stunned by a gentleman who was sitting on a bench by us; he had a carton of chips and instead of eating them, he grabbed a handful of chips and threw them onto the pavement in front of him.
By the time he had done this several times, there were hoards of gulls inundating this small area – it was like a scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds.
He had no care for the people walking past, bearing in mind these creatures are rather large, many of the people were visibly disturbed by this.
These birds are more than capable of finding food without people feeling the need to feed them.
In fact, the more people feed them, the more of a menace they become.
