Richard Drax (Dorset Echo, Friday, April 22) knows that Britain is heavily dependent on the free movement of labour in order to support economic growth and essential welfare services.
Migration may serve on occasions to draw attention to local weaknesses in our infrastructure and services – it is not the cause of such weakness. Inadequate housing, low pay and unemployment are the result of the distorted priorities of politicians who favour the interests of powerful elites.
Our present economic woes are the direct responsibility of the Conservatives allies, the city spivs who gamble unsuccessfully with our national resources.
From the comfort of his 7,000-acre estate I would not expect Mr Drax to see things my way but then again didn’t his ancestors once plot a Glorious Revolution from within Charborough House?
