YOUNGSTERS are being invited to bring their skateboards and bikes along to a fun-packed event at Dorchester skatepark this weekend.

The third annual Dorchester Skate Jam takes place on Saturday from 11am and organisers are hoping this year’s event will be the biggest and best yet.

Skaters and bikers will be performing incredible tricks and stunts at the skatepark and there will be a host of other free activities for people to join in.

Youngsters will have a chance to tackle a climbing wall or try their hand at slalom skateboarding and longboarding.

There will also be advice and tips on slacklining – a balance sport similar to tightrope walking – and free running or parkour.

There will be junior sessions on a mobile skatepark, a bouncy castle, Scalextric, a graffiti workshop and other creative activities.

Dorchester Skate Park Committee, which organised the event, has managed to attract big name sponsorship for the event.

Maverick, the company that built the park, will be there on the day along with Total BMX, Vans, Extreme Pie, Independent, Bones, Wethepeople and We Are Level.

All of the companies will also be bringing their own teams of skateboarders and BMX riders to do displays, while Deluxe BMX has also provided one of its frames as first prize for a raffle.

The event is not just for youngsters, with people of all ages invited to come along.

Community development officer at West Dorset District Council Emma Scott said: “I am really impressed by the amount of great help this event has received from the people who have organised it and those running activities and stalls on the day.

“The business support and sponsorship we have had has been outstanding and the range of things to do on the day will make this a really top quality day appealing to people of all ages.”

There will be food and refreshments available at the event.

Participants under the age of nine must bring an adult to register them and all riders are advised to wear helmets and suitable safety gear.
