Cerne Abbas TEATIME Antiques is the title of an afternoon event on Friday, July 15.

Two experts from Lawrences Auctioneers are available in the Village Hall from 2pm onwards to look at your objects.

Ceramics, glass, portraiture, pictures, small objects and similar items can be brought but please do not bring coins, stamps, militaria, books or jewellery.

One item per person please, tickets for this event are £ 5 to include tea.

FLORALS at Tea: The organisers would like to say a big Thank You to everyone for making Friday, May 6 such a successful event.

Altogether £ 233 was raised at St. Mary’s Church.

Another flower arranging workshop will be planned for next year.

FIRST School: Abbey Class of Cerne Abbas First School is putting on a music concert on Wednesday, July 13 at 3:45pm.

It is hoped that a large audience will attend since the children have been practising incredibly hard!

Sports Day is also taking place the same day at 1pm so why not link those two events and come to both?

An advance notification for those of you who enjoy the leaver’s service: It will take place on Friday, July 22 at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church Buckland Newton HARRY Dibben’s name will be added to the village’s War Memorial on Sunday, July 17, the families of the other men commemorated on it will also be invited.

Two of them, however, are proving to be difficult to trace: The family of A. Bates who perished during the Second World War and that of Sidney Smith who was born in Bournemouth, whilst his wife Flora came from Milton Abbas.

Sydling St. Nicholas SHORT Mat Bowls Club: This club has been going from strength to strength, hosting a series of sessions on alternative Wednesdays at 2:30pm and 7:30pm Members cover a variety of ages and Short Mat Bowls is certainly not classed as an “old people’s sport”!

With the weather as temperamental as it is, why not try out this indoor sport?

Apparently it is now the second biggest participation team sport in Australia!
