WITH only days to go before the School Build Challenge competition finishes one school is urging its supporters to get behind it.

Over the last couple of months the Echo and construction company Leadbitter have been running a competition to give schools across the area a chance to win a share of a £6,000 makeover for their outside areas.

Schools that entered have been whittled down by a panel of judges to the final 21.

The finalists have been busy collecting tokens from the Echo everyday for a chance to win. The winner will be worked out by dividing the number of tokens each school has by the number of pupils at the schools.

First prize will be a makeover worth £3,000 with runners-up prizes of £2,000 and £1,000 being awarded.

Leadbitter will then go into the school and create the winning structure during the school holidays.

Damers First School in Dorchester sent in a design to allow them to build an asphalt path that they could then build houses along to create their own village with shops, a hospital and a school.

The road would be used for the children to walk along and used wheeled toys.

Assistant headteacher Ellie Goodridge said that the village would allow the children to play and learn skills like numeracy at the same time.

She said: “We have a nice playground and grass area but it’s just a bit dull at the moment. We want to build the Tarmac road to link the two areas.

“One parent has drawn up some amazing plans and then it’s a case of asking the children what sorts of shops they want in the village so that they can play and learn in it.”

She added that winning the school build challenge would mean a lot to the children at the school.

Mrs Goodridge said: “They would love it, they would be so excited.

“It’s been a project that’s been in our minds for a few years.

The vouchers will be in the paper every day until Saturday, July 9.
