I REFER to the article in the Echo on July 5 and the headline Resort Eyes A £1M Boost, regarding the erection of the proposed viewing tower, and would consider this figure as wishful thinking, plucked from someone’s hat.

It is quite obvious that this would be a summer attraction only, as I cannot imagine visitors making a special journey in the winter purely to admire the view from the tower, when they could obtain the same result from a trip to Portland Bill.

This construction will impinge greatly on the view from the Esplanade towards the Nothe.

A point that the Council may not have considered, is that, having allowed such a structure to be erected in a prominent position, this could leave the floodgates open for an energy company to apply for planning to erect wind turbines on the Portland Breakwater.

I cannot see what arguments the Council could put forward to prevent such a scheme, having allowed the Eye to be erected in such a prominent position.

This structure would be more suited at the Lodmoor Country Park where other attractions exist.

I feel that the council and councillors should sit and consider carefully regarding their actions, and not act as the Israelites did of old, and worship the golden calf, as they appear to be doing when one mentions the word Olympics.
