If locaL bus companies genuinely do consider that the new northbound entrance to the relief road at Upwey is dangerous why not either: n divert the present service down Stottingway Street and via Goulds Hill and Martinstown to Monkey’s Jump roundabout and back to the Tesco roundabout before rejoining the present route into Dorchester.

This would provide a safer solution whilst providing a partial rural service. If the new Monkey’s Jump park and ride is ever opened then there would also be some additional passengers there n modify the now disused old Ridgeway road which is still laid as far as the old Came Down junction and relay a further carriage/slip road to join the main road a little further down. This would be for the use of public transport only. This would probably cost a few quid but let’s face it there seems to be loads of money sloshing for anything to do with improving Olympic access roads.

Many people have been patiently awaiting the opening of this important junction on the relief road system which is frankly necessary for many residents and businesses in the Upwey area and we are obviously grateful that it is at last open.

I fear, like many, that this problem might just be providing a convenient excuse for a bus company to curtail the Upwey leg of the route and replace it with what is probably a more profitable Littlemoor leg. It’s such a shame that having spent so much time and money the experts could not see what everyone else could see.

Let’s hope a sensible solution can be found.
