SECRETARY of State for Education Alan Johnson, one of the leading names in the Labour Party leadership wrangle, will visit a £6.3million newly-built special school in Weymouth today.

Schools minister and South Dorset MP, Jim Knight, will accompany Mr Johnson to the new Wyvern Special School.

The school is moving from Chickerell Road to a site on Dorchester Road next to the St Nicholas and St Laurence Primary School and the Wey Valley School.

Mr Knight said: "I am delighted the Education Secretary has agreed to visit Wyvern to see how the new school is taking shape and to learn more about the excellent work under way at Wyvern and its partner schools.

"The new Wyvern will be a big boost to education in South Dorset."

Mr Johnson will meet staff and students from Wyvern school.

Building started on the new Wyvern school in July 2005 and it will be officially opened in November.
