PEOPLE are being urged to don their hats and join a walk to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The Bridport group is holding a Memory Walk on Sunday, September 18, to coincide with the Bridport Hat Festival. It will begin and end at the Millennium Green and organisers say that it is an easy one-mile walk, suitable for all ages as well as being wheelchair-friendly. The route will go past places and buildings of interest in Bridport.

Part of the way through the walk, they will be stopping at Bridport Community Orchard for a musical interlude and encouraging people to join in and sing. A spokesman said: “This will be reflective of Singing For The Brain. It’s a service provided by the Alzheimer’s Society which uses singing to bring people together in a friendly and stimulating social environment as well as being of benefit to those suffering from dementia.”

There will also be hot drinks provided at the end. The walk leaves the Mill-ennium Green at 11.30am. Those unable to make the walk can join the singalong at noon at Bridport Community Orchard, behind St.Mary’s Churchyard.

The Memory Walk initiative is the Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship fundraising event. Since 2002, it has raised over £1,700,000 nationwide for people living with dementia and their carers.
