I have just spent two months in Dorset County Hospital after a severe stroke, and would like to highlight to readers what a magnificent stroke unit they have in their midst.
I cannot praise them too much for the professional excellence of their care; from the consultants, doctors, nursing staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, through to the dedicated ward cleaners (yes, them too!) who all brought caring humanity, humour and considerable patience to all they did. The result was that, in the midst of patients battling varying degrees of personal tragedies, there existed a remarkably happy and positive atmosphere.
In my view, they are the finest of examples of what the NHS can, and should continue to, deliver, and they have my deepest thanks. PETER EAGLESTONE, Commander RN (Retired), High Street, Bath
