PARENTS of children with learning disabilities can get advice on financial planning at an event in Weymouth next month.

An independent legal professional specialising in wills and trusts will talk at a Mencap seminar about the options for how best to leave money in a will to a loved one with a learning disability, ensuring they get the best financial support they are entitled to.

Mencap solicitor Aarti Gupta said: “Wills and inheritance are subjects not often talked about, but programmes like BBC2’s Can’t Take It With You are bringing these issues to the forefront, reminding people to ensure that their affairs are in order.

“This is particularly important for anyone leaving money in a will to a loved one with a learning disability.”

She added: “Parents often worry about how their loved one will manage their financial affairs when they are no longer around and are concerned that a large amount of money may leave them in a vulnerable position. They may also want to ensure that their loved one can benefit from their full inheritance.”

The Mencap Planning for the Future seminar is at Redlands Community Sports Hub, Dorchester Road, on Friday October 7 between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
